, Bally's Atlantic City:
Kennedy, 122.5 pounds, of North Philadelphia, stayed "in the pocket" all night, blocking scores of punches with his arms and shoulders and firing quick, pin-point counter punches against Gonzalez, 123, who never stopped trying.
His stamina at an all-time high, Kennedy was a virtual "punching machine" and he never slowed down the pace, staying in Gonzalez' chest every minute of every round to win by scores of 77-75, 78-74, 80-71. What Gonzalez did, Kennedy did it better to raise his record to 13-0, 5 K0s.
A pro since 2007, the 22-year-old Kennedy hopes to fight for the vacant United States Boxing Association 122-pound title in his next fight.
Gonzalez, 26, has nothing to be ashamed of as he proved he could hang in there with perhaps the best "little man" on the East Coast. Gonzales now is 9-6-1, 1 K0.
In other bouts of the card: Patrick Majewski, 160 pounds, Somers Point, NJ, scored a third-round knockdown en route to a unanimous eight-round decision (77-74, 78-73, 80-71) over previously unbeaten Latif Mundy, 159.5, of North Philadelphia, middleweights. Majewski now is 11-0, 7 K0s, while Mundy drops to 8-1-1, 3 K0s; Big John Poore, 215.5, Upper Darby, PA, ended an 11-month layoff with a unanimous six-round decision (58-56, 58-56, 58-56) over Jermell Barnes, 223.5, Rochester, NY, heavyweights. Poore is 21-3, 18 K0s, Barnes 18-21-2, 4 K0s; Garrett Wilson, 178, West Philadelphia, threw an overhand right which demolished Louis Robinson, 179, North Philadelphia, at 2.06 of the third round of their light-heavyweight match; Jose Guzman, 135, Bronx, NY, out-pointed Eliud Torres, 133.5, Allentown, PA, over four rounds of their lightweight contest. Scores were split: 39-37 and 40-36 for Guzman and 39-37 for Torres; Ardrick Butler, 149, West Philadelphia, earned a unanimous four-round decision (38-37, 38-37, 39-36) over Rashad Bogar, 147.5, Newark, NJ, welterweights.
Super bantamweight Teon "The Technician" Kennedy came of age in this fight as he pounded out a unanimous eight-round decision over tough Lucian Gonzalez in the eight-round main event in front of a standing-room-only crowd in the 1,500-seat Grand Ballroom.
