, New Alhambra, Philadelphia, PA:
Diamond, 137 pounds, of Las Vegas, scored one knockdown en route to his 24th wins in 26 fights (one draw), earning scores of 99-90, 100-89, 100-89. The 29-year-old Diamond has lost only to Nate Campbell. He has scored 16 knockouts.
Augustus, 137, who claims he took off seven pounds in 48 hours, fought only in spurts. At 32, his record drops to 34-28-6, 18 K0s.
In other bouts on the card: Junior middleweight Anthony Thompson, 156, North Philadelphia, stopped used-up trialhorse Robert Frazier, 155, Rochester, NY, who failed to answer the bell for round seven. Thompson, 25, is still trying to regain the amateur form that had some people predicting big things for him as a pro; Carlos Vinan, 128.25, Newark, NJ, got off the floor in round two and swept the next four from an exhausted Eric Hunter, 126.75, West Philadelphia, featherweights. Vinan got the split decision: 57-56, 55-58, 57-56; Omar Pittman, 170, North Philadelphia, was lucky to earn a six-round draw with the usually reluctant Dhafir Smith, 169, West Philadelphia, super middleweights. Smith finally came to fight but settled for scores of 57-57, 57-57, 58-56 Pittman; Joe Christy, 158.75, South Philadelphia, won his third straight on his mini-comeback by tallying scores of 60-54 across the board to beat lefty Vance Garvey, 161, Indianapolis, IN, middleweights; Teon Kennedy, 127, North Philadelphia, had a successful pro debut with an impressive stoppage at 2.41 of the opening round against Marsay Buggs, 130, Gran Rapids, MI, junior lightweights; Darnell Jiles, 139, Rochester, NY, went to 4-0 with a four-round shutout (40-36 across the board) over Jason Jordan, 138, Akron, OH, junior welterweights.
Popular Emanuel Augustus, the traveling man from Brownsville, TX, showed up on two days' notice and could not handle the steady attack of highly regarded Kid Diamond, losing a one-sided 10-round decision in a lightweight match televised by the VERSUS network.
