, New Alhambra, Philadelphia, PA:
Mtagwa, 124.5 pounds, of South Philadelphia, was making the second defense of his USBA title within seven weeks. He had K0d California's Art Simonyan on June 16 in the same ring.
Brown, 125.5, of Kansas City, MO, had his moments with wide body shots and an occasional right-hand counter, but Mtagwa controlled the first two rounds, catching Brown with his own right-hand shots and forcing the action.
Mtagwa slowed down in round three as the heat--it was over 100 degrees in Philadelphia--affected both fighters and Brown got back into the fight. But with less than 10 seconds left in round four, Mtagwa drove Brown into his own (Brown's) corner and nailed him with an overhand right which sent Brown down and through the bottom rope and the fight was stopped.
The win brings Mtagwa's record to 21-10-2, 16 K0s, and should elevate him into the Top 10 rankings of the IBF. He is 27 years old.
Brown, 36, drops to 26-9, 12 K0s.
