Ouma, 154 pounds, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, scored knockdowns in the first and fourth rounds, busted up Cuevas around both eyes and had things his own way when Cuevas surrendered, marking the first time in Cuevas' 34-fight career that he has been stopped.
The 26-year-old Ouma improves to 22-2-1, 14 K0s, and gets back in line for another shot at a world title.
Cuevas, 154.5 pounds, of Chicago, drops to 25-8-1, 17 K0s. He is 36 years old.
In other bouts on the card: Demetrius Hopkins, of Philadelphia, knocked out Ernesto Zepeda, of Tijuana, Mexico, at 1.07 of round nine, junior welterweights. Former IBF junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma returned to his championship form when he dominated rugged Freddie Cuevas en route to a kncokout victory when Cuevas' corner stopped the fight at the end of the fourth round of their scheduled 10-round bout.
